About Me

Dr Mario Malkoun is an Illawarra-based General Surgeon who has undertaken significant minimally-invasive laparoscopic and robotic ("keyhole") surgical training. He also provides Endoscopy (colonoscopy and gastroscopy) and a range of skin surgeries which can be done in the clinic or in the hospital. Dr Malkoun also provides non-surgical weight loss solutions like a gastric balloon which can be swallowed without the need for an anaesthetic or a trip to hospital.

After growing up in Sydney, Dr Malkoun completed his undergraduate medical science degree at Sydney University and gained his Honours degree through the Westmead Millennium Institute in human genetics using DNA Microarray, which was a new technology at the time. He undertook his graduate medical degree at the University of Queensland and graduated with an MBBS in 2004.

He then returned to NSW for his internship and chose Wollongong Hospital where he also stayed on throughout his resident year. Dr Malkoun subsequently began his surgical training around NSW in hospitals such as St George Hospital in Kogarah and Wollongong Hospital. He later returned to Wollongong Hospital as a Surgical Fellow in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery for a further two years.

Dr Malkoun now lives in Wollongong full-time and consults in Wollongong and Shellharbour. He operates regularly and performs a large number of the below minor procedures in-clinic, rather than having to go to hospital.
